Govt asks seafood exporters to explore new markets amid US tariff hike

The new DELHI asked the government to confront the “brave” confrontation of the US exporters on Monday (PTI) on Monday with the current challenge of the US tariffs and discover alternative markets to send karikatists and other fish varieties.
Addressing a press conference, the Minister of Fisheries, Livestock and Milk Rajiv Ranjan Singh, said that there are alternative markets for India’s exports of seafood.
“The EU, Japan, South Korea, England, Russia, Australia, West Asia, South East Asia and many countries are available for the export of Indian seafood.” He said.
Singh, “We wanted them to confront them boldly with the current challenges. There are alternative markets … There is a way where there is a will.”
The Minister emphasized the need to add value and improve the packaging before reaching other markets.
“Before they reached other markets, we told them that there was a need to improve value and improving packaging. We wanted to work in this direction.”
Singh also asked exporters to benefit from the Fisheries Infrastructure Development Fund to raise and strengthen the added value, processing and packaging facilities.
In order to eliminate export concerns, they were asked to meet with exporters in four main production states from the Sea Product Export Development Authority (MPEDA) and help them prepare for new markets.
The Minister said that MPEDA will help to determine certain types of fish, to modernize the value -added and processing and packaging infrastructure.
Minister, “We made a efficient meeting. Some positive suggestions found.” He said.
Fisheries, livestock and milkwater SP SP SP SP SENGHEL and George Kurian and Fishing Secretary Abhilaksh Linhi were also present for state ministers.
When asked if the exporters wanted to come to a financial package on the current difficult situation, Singh said, “A few days ago, the Prime Minister said that we would not compromise on the interests of farmers.
He said exporters have identified new markets and began to explore them.
More than 50 individual exporters and key fish representatives attended the meeting.
The Minister said that exporters made some suggestions to include Pradhan Mantry Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMsy) during the 16th Finance Commission.
He said that the government has emerged with draft instructions about fishing in the open seas and exclusive economic regions and seeking public comments within a month.
“This will benefit from fishing, especially Lakshadweep Islands and Tuna fish in Andaman and Nicobar, and will support India’s exports more.”
Last week, the United States increased mutual tariffs from 25 percent to 50 percent in Indian goods.
