Donald Trump revives sanctions threat as Putin and Zelensky at odds over talks
“Putin is ready to meet when the agenda is ready for a summit, and this agenda is not ready, Lav Lavrov said, Moscow’s settled discourse on a leading meeting unless certain conditions are met.
Trump, who was asked to be asked to answer Lavrov’s comments and what the next steps could be, told reporters at a White House event on Friday: “Well, we will see. We will see if Putin and Zelensky will work together. A little like oil and vinegar.
“It will be interesting to see. If they don’t, why didn’t they have a meeting, because I told them to have a meeting. But I will know what to do in two weeks.”
Trump received sanctions from the table before the Anchorage meeting with Putin. However, at the same White House event, which he mentioned about possible sanctions, he showed a photo of his meeting with Putin in Alaska and said that the Russian leader wanted to participate in the US World Cup 2026 football tournament.

“I will sign it for him. But I was sent one and I thought you wanted to see it, a man named Vladimir Putin, whom I believe will come depending on what will happen, may be coming and not depending on what it is,” he said.
Trump’s comments did not address the fact that Russia was banned from international competitions such as the World Cup after the occupation of 2022 Ukraine and did not agree with the adequacy of the 2026 tournament to be organized by the USA, Canada and Mexico.

Putin, on Friday a nuclear weapon research center, “President Trump’s arrival, a light at the end of the tunnel finally appeared. And now we have a very good, meaningful and Frank meeting in Alaska,” he said.
