Australian woman, 53, facing 20 years’ jail after arrest in Indonesia over alleged cannabis vape possession

An Australian woman faces up to 20 years in an Indonesian prison after police seized a vape pack containing approximately 50ml of cannabis oil at her rented home on the island of Lombok.
Indonesian police spotted a suspicious package sent via courier service from Australia to the resort island of Gili Trawangan, local media reported.
Police discovered the package had been redirected to a settlement in West Lombok where an Australian woman lived.
Investigators tracked down the package and found five cans of vape liquid, two empty cans of vape liquid, and a vaping device, allegedly containing marijuana oil.
The woman was arrested at the property last month.
North Lombok Police Narcotics Chief Nyoman Diana Mahardika claimed that the woman, identified by the initials BC, admitted to using marijuana to relieve knee pain and depression.
He told local media the incident would be investigated as a crime.
“The items were not sent directly to Gili Trawangan, but were transported to a residence occupied by BC. We opened the package in front of local witnesses,” he said.

“The suspect admitted that the contents of the empty boxes had already been consumed.
“It must comply with the laws and regulations in force in our country.
“As for narcotics such as marijuana, they should not be possessed, used or traded within our jurisdiction.”
If convicted, the woman faces up to 20 years in prison and a fine of $156,000 (two billion rupees).
He was taken into custody to initiate an investigation against him.
