Ukraine’s Zelenskiy says Europe must clearly define security guarantees
(Reuters) -Kraine President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said to a group of European leaders on Thursday that it is important to produce a clear definition of security guarantees for Ukraine as a part of the plan to ensure peace agreement with Russia after 3-1/2 years.
Polish President Karol Nawrocki and Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Denmark leaders were organized in Poland and watched a Russian attack on Kiev, where local authorities killed 22 people.
Zelenskiy said that the participants of the meeting synchronized the “synchronized” positions on Russia before the diplomatic meetings on the Ukrainian conflict, which began with the occupation of Russia’s smaller neighbor in February 2022.
Zelenskiy, Ukraine’s Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin, who is still interested in continuing the war, said in a statement to the meeting on the presidential website.
Zelenskiy said Ukraine’s US President Donald Trump has been discussed for a week and that a common understanding of Putin deserves more pressure needed a solid foundation for security guarantees.
“And when we talk about security guarantees, we need clear answers – if Russia comes again, it will help us defend on the ground, in the air and at sea?” he said. “And how can you join exactly. I want you to define your role.”
Zelenskiy said, “It is important for President Trump to see that we are united in our determination to end the war in Europe,” Zelenskiy said.
Trump is trying to hold a meeting between Putin and Zelenskiy, and he said he could impose new sanctions on Moscow if there is no progress in ending the conflict. The White House said that the President was not “happy” with the Russian attack on one night.
Zelenskiy has supported Trump’s call for meeting for a long time and before the negotiations, the European leaders supported calls for a ceasefire.
Senior Ukrainian officials will have negotiations with Trump management officials in New York on Friday.
