BHUBANESWAR: Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the inspiring journey of Odisha Rasmita Sahoo, who emerged as one of the brightest young talents of India in the 125th episode of Baat, a monthly radio address on Sunday.

During the segment at the ‘Khelo Indian Water Sports Festival’, which has recently resulted, the Prime Minister interacted with Rasmita, who came from a remote village in Odisha and belongs to the fisherman community and formed a niche in the difficult canoe discipline. Rasmita, who shared his story, recalled how he came to a canoe in a river near his village while swimming with his friends. “There was no sports facility in my village. One day I saw a canoe rock boat in Jagatpur near Cuttack City and I was taken instantly. I told my father that I wanted to continue this sport and my journey started like this.”

Since his canoe in 2017, Rasmita has founded himself as a challenging rival on the national stage. “So far, I have participated in more than one national championship and national games that won 41 medals – 13 gold, 14 silver and 14 bronze,” he said.

Prime Minister Modi praised young athletes such as Rasmita as the driving force behind India’s Sports Renaissance ve and looked their passions and determination for writing their passions and perseverance for writing “a new section in the country’s sports journey”.
