Holiday declared for school in Ernakulam following discovery of dog’s carcass on campus

On Thursday, September 11, 2025, a holiday was declared for the Government Girls’ High School in Thripunitura in Ernakulam.
Shortly after the incident was reported, the authorities of the Livestock Department and Thripunitura Municipality inspected the site. Carcass was found in the morning.
The school campus has been a paradise for street dogs for a while. Following the reports of a suspicious rabies dog, the rest of the dogs on the campus was caught and shifted to an observation center. Dogs were found to have increased along the shrub environment of an abandoned building on campus.
It was reported that the dog found in the mouth foaming in the mouth and charging the previous day recently. There was no report that the student or staff was bitten by the dog. The staff who reached school in the morning found the carcass bitten by the other two street dogs.
Deputy Livestock Director, dogs carried to the shelter will be observed for rabies symptoms for the next 10 days, he said. Authority, the municipal boundaries of the street dogs will be vaccinated in the coming days, he added.
