7.8-Magnitude Earthquake Hits Russia’s Far East Region, Tsunami Alert Issued

Moscow: In the early hours of Friday, a strong earthquake of 7.8 in magnitude of the Far East Kamchatka Peninsula of Russia hit, shook the buildings and then removed.

The videos published on the Russian social media showed furniture and light fixtures swinging in homes, and the other showed a parked car swinging back and forth in one street.

The earthquake hit the capital of the region, Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, 128 kilometers (80 miles) and hit a shallow depth of 10 kilometers (six miles).

The local branch of Russia state geophysical service gave estimated size 7.4. At least five aftershocks reported.

The US Pacific Tsunami Warning Center issued a warning for possible dangerous waves on the nearby coastline, but a few hours later, the threat said.

“This morning, Kamchatka tests the flexibility of the inhabitants of the Regional Governor Vladimir Soloudov. He said.

“There is no damage report right now. I want everyone to stay calm.”

The Kamchatka Peninsula lies in a tectonic belt known as a fire ring, which surrounds most of the Pacific Ocean and is a hot dot for seismic activity.

In July, a Mega-Quake of 8.8 magnitude from the coast of the region triggered a tsunami, which swept some of a coastal village into the sea and caused warnings around the Pacific.
