A hidden pipeline brings Amazon and Walmart to African shoppers

Dakar: Don’t have a bank card? No address? No problem. Shoppers in Africa are increasingly shopping online from big brands like Amazon or Walmart, despite having no physical presence in much of the continent.

Beneficiaries of the transition include domestic and foreign package forwarding companies, which are using technology and increasing internet penetration in Africa to overcome barriers including a lack of official street addresses and customers without access to traditional banks.
