While girls in Tamil Nadu are asked to study, girls in North India are asked to stay at home, be in the kitchen and give birth to children, Chennai Central MP and senior DMK leader Dayanidhi Maran said on Wednesday, January 14, 2026.
Mr. Maran, who attended an event presided over by Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin in Chennai, said that the government operating under the leadership of MK Stalin is a ‘Dravidian model’ government working on the ideology of “Ellarukum ellam” (everything for everyone).
The DMK MP said boys and girls in Tamil Nadu are expected to carry laptops distributed by the State government and either face an interview or join safely after graduation. Maran said, “In Tamil Nadu, we tell women to study. But what do they say in North India? They say girls should not go to work, they should be at home, in the kitchen, give birth to children, this is your job.”
“…This is Tamil Nadu. This is Dravida Nadu. This is the land of (late DMK patriarch) M. Karunanidhi, (former Prime Minister) Anna and (Chief Minister) MK Stalin. The progress of you (your women) in this land is the progress of Tamil Nadu. Why are global companies coming to Chennai? Because here everyone is educated not only in Tamil but also in English,” he said.
