‘Accept it on behalf of 140 crore Indians’

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during a ceremony at the president’s house in the port of Spain, was given the greatest dignity of the nation on Friday by the order of the ‘Trinidad and the Republic of Tobago’ (OVERT).

Trinidad and Tobago President Christine Kangaloo awarded PM Modi for being the first foreign leader to be honored for the award. This is the 25th international honor given to PM Modi by any country.

Prime Minister Modi said he accepted the award on behalf of 140 Crore Indian. “I accept the 140 Crore Indian,” he said in an article in X.

Prime Minister Modi started his first official visit on Thursday (local time) with a ceremonial guard at Piarco International Airport (local time), where Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar 38 ministers and four members of the Caribbean Nation Parliament.

PM Modi shared important events in the Port of Spain in the social media platform X. The video shows that PM Modi was welcomed by Trinidad and Tobago equivalent by Persad-Bissessar.

The people of Trinidad and Tobago welcomed PM Modi with enthusiasm, danced to the drum rhythm, and exhibited traditional music and performances reflecting a mixture of local and Indian culture. PM Modi also interacted with the Indian Diaspora members gathered at Piarco International Airport to meet him.

PM Modi’s visit to Trinidad and Tobago is part of a wider five-national tour between July 2 and July 9. The second leg of his tour, Trinidad and Tobago, is expected to increase bilateral relations by focusing on fields such as digital finance, renewable energy, health and information technology.

In the early hours of Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was given by Ghana’s Star Order, President John Dramani Mahama with the recognition of “elite” statism and influential global leadership.

Prime Minister’s visit to Trinidad and Tobago will be the first visit to the Prime Minister since 1999 and the first bilateral visit at the Prime Minister.

The Prime Minister will also visit Argentina, Brazil and Namibia as a part of his tour. He will travel to Brazil to join the 17th BRICS Summit 2025 in his visit to the fourth leg of his visit between July 5 and 8 July and then a state visit to the South American country.
