PUCL Against Opening Sterlite Factory

Chennai: In his national contract, the PUCL’s Union of Civil Freedoms (PUCL) made a decision against the proposal of the Vedanta in Throwhukudi to reopen the Sterlite factory and said it would be a health danger for the people of the Coast town in South Tamil Nadu.

At the meeting held in Ranchi, the decision was moved on Sunday by PUCL’s Throwhukudi unit and unanimously adopted at the meeting.

Although the facility was now closed according to the Supreme Court orders, movements were made to reopen the administration and a committee was established, including professors from Anna University to examine the possibility of reopening.

The committee already stated that the copper melting plant can be opened with certain modifications.
