Gang robs cash and jewels in two houses in Salem

A gang of 7 people robbed cash and 14 sovereign jewels at knifepoint from two houses in the district on Saturday night, July 19, 2026.

On Saturday night, July 19, 2026, a seven-member gang arrived on three bikes, covered their faces and tried to steal the belongings of Chandran (65), a resident of Kondaiyampalli near Tammampatti, but Chandran raised the alarm and the gang fled the scene. The gang then went to Vanikinaru, entered a house owned by retired education department employee Ganesan (67), robbed four crown jewels and ₹₹10,000 at knifepoint and escaped.

Later, the gang went to Sithampattikuttai and stole 10 sovereign jewels and ₹ 1 lakh cash from the house of P. Malarvizhi (48) at knifepoint and fled the scene. These three events happened within an hour.

Upon being informed, Tammampatti police came to the houses and inspected them. District Police Superintendent (SP) S. Kuthalingam also came to the scene and inspected. Special teams were formed to catch the perpetrators.
