Adilabad Records 25% Drop In Road Fatalities, Police Credit ‘Arrive Alive’ Initiative

ADILABAD: According to the police, a 25 percent decrease in deaths due to road accidents was recorded in Adilabad district in the first six months of 2026 compared to the same period in 2025.

Official data shows that 217 traffic accidents were reported in the first half of 2025, resulting in 86 deaths and 260 injuries. In the same period this year, 209 accidents were reported, resulting in 65 deaths and 216 injuries.

Police attributed this decline to road safety awareness programs carried out under the ‘Come Alive’ initiative. Measures included the establishment of road safety clubs such as ‘Khaki Kids’, as well as campaigns among students, government employees and residents of villages along National Highway 44.

Superintendent of Police Akhil Mahajan said Adilabad ranks fourth in reducing road accident-related deaths in the state after Cyberabad, Sangareddy and Jogulamba Gadwal districts.

He said enforcement measures such as controlling drunk driving, monitoring excessive speed, insisting on the use of helmets and seat belts, taking action against vehicles without license plates, identifying accident-prone black spots and increasing the number of patrols on the highway contributed to the decline.

Police also placed displays of accident-damaged vehicles and cardboard replicas of patrol vehicles at designated locations on NH 44 to warn motorists.

The SP said the efforts are aimed at creating awareness that road safety is a shared responsibility and public compliance with traffic rules is essential for sustainable improvement.
