AEW Double or Nothing results: MJF wins world title over Darby Allin

NEW YORK – Maxwell Jacob Friedman (MJF) had a lot on his mind heading into the All Elite Wrestling (AEW) main event at Double or Nothing in New York City on Sunday night.
In front of his home country, he risked his hair to become a three-time AEW world champion against Darby Allin, to whom he lost the belt more than a month ago. Mick Foley’s first time joining the company didn’t help either, as the pro wrestling legend had choice words for MJF before the show even started.
MJF responded with a kick to the groin, not only to Foley but to the thousands of people who hoped Allin would keep MJF’s baldness and shave it off.

With Memorial Day holiday weekend weather befitting the Pacific Northwest and a dozen signs calling for MJF to go bald by the end of the night, MJF went to war with Allin right out of the gate. He avoided Allin’s suicide dive, which caused the contestant to fall head first into the announce table.
MJF hit an apron powerbomb on Allin and would proceed to set up the steel steps to nail Allin with the package pile driver. The crowd responded with groans after the move hurt both men. At one point, exhausted wrestlers were hanging on the ropes. They looked at each other in the ring with almost mutual admiration.
The fight was still going on.
MJF carried Allin to the ramp, hoping to jump Allin and shave his head bald before Allin could get the scissors. The barber pushed his chair aside, but Allin fought back and knocked MJF to the floor. Allin placed MJF on the table and looked up at the dock above.

Ring announcer Justin Roberts called Allin “bat crazy” when introducing Allin to the crowd. Allin then started doing his “bat s-crazy” thing. He climbed the scaffolding in hopes of putting MJF away and doing the final damage to retain his title.
Allin stood high above MJF at the top of the dock, graced Foley with a “pop, pop” and dove between MJF and the table, several feet off the ground, for one of the craziest moments of the night.
Allin has become worse for wear. The back of his head was bleeding pretty bad as he tried to drag MJF back into the ring for the pin and the win. Allin hit the Coffin Drop but MJF was kicked out at two. He then tried to hit MJF with the Scorpion Death Lock but ran out of power.
MJF blocked another Coffin Drop and managed to get Allin into an avalanche-like Tombstone Piledriver. He accomplished this perfectly, pinning Allin for the win.

MJF became a three-time AEW world champion at the age of 30. With this landmark win, he joins other professional wrestling legends such as Lou Thesz, The Rock, Brock Lesnar, Randy Orton, John Cena, Shinsuke Nakamura and Kazuchika Okada.
More importantly, perhaps he didn’t need to shave his head.

The damage isn’t over yet for Allin. When Kevin Knight came out, he was being carried out of the ring on a stretcher. Knight apparently returned and hit a UFO Splash on Allin while he was strapped to the stretcher.
