Adelaide: This was not the most commanding, memorable or chilling victory of Fremantle’s gold-plated march to September. But they will.
Having been largely dictated to in the first half, the Dockers put their foot down to edge Port Adelaide with relative ease at Adelaide Oval after the break; Jye Amiss (four goals) and Josh Treacy (three) fired on in attack as the Dockers cruised to victory 15.13 (103) to 11.9 (75).
At the top of the ladder, the visitors were irrevocable favorites against the Power, who were 15th in the table and short on squads. With so many first-choice starters sitting on the sideline, led by captain Connor Rozee (hamstring), vice-captain Zak Butters (ankle), Jason Horne-Francis (suspended), Mitch Georgiades (concussion), Jack Lukosius (calf) and Sam Powell-Pepper (knee), nobody gave Port even a chance.
The Power’s flagging stock was dealt a further blow when they lost Kane Farrell (groin) at the weekend and match morning replacement Harrison Ramm (illness). With Willem Drew stepping in as captain, Miles Bergman, Joe Berry and Jase Burgoyne had to shoulder more of the midfield load.
