AFP investigating Lidia Thorpe’s ‘burn down Parliament House’ comments
“I echo what the Prime Minister has said about the fact that, although now is a time of hope, we need to lower the temperature… wanting to inflame, wanting to raise the temperature is not something that anyone, especially a Member of Parliament, should do,” Burke told ABC Radio National.
“I’m not going to respond to this by turning the temperature up in the opposite direction. I really think it’s time to turn the temperature down… There are two things Australians want.”
“They wanted the killings to stop, and they wanted to make sure the conflict wasn’t brought here. We might be looking for a chance to end the killings right now, too. So let’s try to calm things down here, too.”
Burke said the motion of no confidence would be a matter for the Senate. Minister of Social Services Tanya Plibersek told Nine’s: Today He said on Monday that a vote of no confidence in Thorpe or similar outcomes was “a matter for future determination”.
Senator Thorpe was contacted for comment.
