AI In Telangana Schools

Hyderabad: The Telangana government has started introducing AI classes in its schools, besides distributing 2,000 laptops to improve digital access as part of a statewide program that will reach nearly two million students.

The Department of School Education is implementing this in partnership with Amazon Future Engineer and Pi Jam Foundation. Laptops have been sent to Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas, IOE KGBVs and CURE schools, where students often rely on shared or limited devices.

Students from Classes V to IX will now study AI through a Digital Learning textbook prepared by SCERT Telangana, which supports the content and delivery of Pi Jam to the class. Classes last 20 to 25 hours each year and introduce ideas such as data, decision-making systems and everyday uses of artificial intelligence.

The government platform telangana.codemitra.org has gone live to enable students to practice what they have learned in the classroom. The program also includes training for more than 28,000 teachers so lessons can go beyond basic device use.

Secretary General for Education Dr. “We are committed to preparing our students for a rapidly evolving world. Introducing AI literacy in public schools ensures that students not only use technology but also understand how it works and how it can be applied to solve real-life problems,” said Yogita Rana.

The initiative is part of the state’s plan to introduce artificial intelligence, design thinking, computational thinking and digital citizenship in school education from the academic year 2025-26, officials said, as it prepares for a wider rollout in India by 2026-27.
