AI reshaping commerce industry from assisted buying to autonomous transactions: Report

New Delhi [India]December 29 (ANI): Global Payments Inc., which provides technology and services for payment processing. A report by has highlighted that Artificial Intelligence is beginning to reshape the commerce industry, with a shift to AI agents who can independently complete purchases on behalf of consumers and businesses, beyond recommendations and customer support.

This marks a shift from AI as a research tool to AI as an active participant in transactions.

“The transformation of commerce is just beginning…… Consumers have already discovered that AI can be a powerful investigator, collaborator and collaborator when it comes to searching for products and services,” he said.

The report stated that another emerging application of artificial intelligence is in the field of home management. Giving an example, the report noted that the head of a busy family could instruct an AI agent to create weekly dinner plans, suggest recipes, and create a shopping list using past purchases, brand preferences, and budget limits.

Thanks to agency commerce linked to payments, AI can place delivery orders directly without the need for repeated confirmations or payment entries.

On the business side, the report noted that AI agents can act on behalf of owners to manage supplies, renew or cancel software subscriptions, oversee maintenance needs, and process payments to suppliers and business employees.

These transactions can be complemented with tokenized purchases, increasing visibility and security.

Initially, businesses adopted AI primarily for customer service, using natural language tools to answer queries and provide personalized recommendations, thereby reducing costs and increasing engagement. AI has also been used to power back-office operations such as demand forecasting and inventory management.

However, in recent months, the role of artificial intelligence as an autonomous agent for consumers has begun to gain traction.

According to the survey included in the report, awareness of intermediary trading among businesses is already high; 15 percent say they are very familiar with this concept, and 72 percent say they are somewhat familiar with it. The next stage involves AI agents processing purchases without extra authorization or repeatedly entering payment details.

The report added that in the consumer space, AI agents can now be directed to plan a seven-day vacation, research flights and hotels within a fixed budget, secure reservations, place a deposit, schedule spa treatments, and even shop for outfits based on the user’s style, brand preferences, and latest wardrobe additions.

The report also noted that AI is changing not only what happens during a transaction, but also who carries it out and when. With wider adoption, testing, and regular improvements, brokered commerce is expected to deliver a better customer experience, improved service, and stronger business touchpoints. However, as technology evolves, challenges and risks remain. (MOMENT)
