Aircraft crashes into Beijing’s tallest skyscraper, triggering evacuations

A plane crashed into Beijing’s tallest skyscraper on Friday afternoon, triggering emergency evacuations.

China Zun skyscraper is one of the 10 tallest buildings in the world with a height of 528 meters.

Dramatic images circulating on social media show debris falling from the 109-storey tower, as well as the tail of the plane and the broken window of a taxi on the ground.

Photos show two windows broken on the side of the building, located in the capital’s busy central business district, Chaoyang District.

While fire brigade, police cars and ambulance arrived at the scene, people were seen being evacuated from the skyscraper.

Also known as Citic Tower, the building is the headquarters of Citic Group, one of China’s largest state-owned financial groups.

The number of injured remains unclear.
