Airlines Cancel 180 Flight Services Due To Airspace Curbs In Mideast

mumbai : Around 180 flights were canceled on Wednesday from three airports in Mumbai, Delhi and Bengaluru metros due to airspace restrictions amid ongoing conflicts in the Middle East, sources said. While 93 flights, 48 departures and 45 arrivals, were canceled at Mumbai Airport, 52 flights, 25 departures and 27 arrivals, were canceled at Delhi Airport on Wednesday.
Sources said that various airlines operating at the Bengaluru airport did not operate 34 flights, of which 18 were non-arrivals.
Flight services have been significantly affected since February 28 due to airspace restrictions in the Middle East due to conflicts involving the United States, Israel and Iran.
Meanwhile, Mumbai Airport handled eight repatriation flights operated by both domestic and international airlines on Wednesday, sources said.
SpiceJet operated two repatriation flights from Fujairah to Mumbai, while Air India operated a flight to the city from Dubai on Wednesday.
Gulf carrier Emirates operated three such flights from Dubai to Mumbai, while Gulf Air and Royal Jordanian operated one flight each from Amman (Jordan) and Dammam (Saudi Arabia) to the financial capital on Wednesday, sources said.
The Ministry of Civil Aviation had announced on Tuesday that 1,221 flights of Indian carriers and 388 flights of foreign carriers (until March 3) were canceled due to the ongoing situation.
According to the ministry’s website, the number of international flights departing from India on March 3 was 356, while 338 international flights landed at various international airports in the country.
