‘Akshaye has created iconic character but…’

Praising Ranveer Singh’s performance as Hamza Ali Manzari aka Jaskirat Singh Rangi in Dhurandhar, Naveen Kaushik said, “It is extremely difficult for someone who is so energetic in real life to suppress all that and play the exact opposite.” he said.

With worldwide gross collections in excess of Rs 1200 billion and domestic net earnings in excess of Rs 800 billion, Dhurandhar has become one of the biggest Indian blockbusters ever. One of the key reasons behind Dhurandhar’s global success is its excellent casting, thanks to casting director Mukesh Chhabra. Lead actors Ranveer Singh, Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal and R Madhavan as well as supporting actors have been making headlines ever since the film’s release. These include Gaurav Gera, Sara Arjun, Danish Pandor, Rakesh Bedi and Naveen Kaushik.
Akshaye’s impeccable performance as Karachi gangster Rehman Dakait became a major topic of discussion after Dhurandhar. However, Naveen feels that Ranveer deserves more recognition for his masterful performance as spy Hamza Ali Ansari aka Jaskirat Singh Rangi. Speaking to popular YouTuber Siddharth Kannan, the actor said, “I think it’s unfair. Akshaye sir has undoubtedly created an iconic character that will be remembered for years to come. But what Ranveer does as an actor: the little nuances, the voice modulation, is extremely difficult for someone who is energetic enough in real life to drown all that out and play the exact opposite.”
Kaushik further added, “On the famous song FA9LA, everyone on the stage is dancing – except Ranveer Singh. It is incredibly difficult to restrain yourself at such a moment. But people did not notice because of Akshaye sir’s commanding aura. Ranveer’s character is deliberately understated. He does not attract attention. Akshaye is the first to command in the film, followed by the Dane. If Ranveer had ego issues, he could have easily tried to draw attention to himself – but he did not. An insecure actor would have done that and Ranveer would stay true to his character and let someone else shine.”
Inside DhurandharNaveen plays Donga, one of the henchmen of Dakait’s Lyari-based gang. Hamza infiltrates the gang to gain access to Pakistan’s underworld and expose the dangerous nexus that binds the country’s gangsters, terrorists, businessmen and politicians. Kaushik has previously appeared in films and TV series such as Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani and Inside Edge.
