Albanese’s gambling reform is social ruin as public policy

Angus Taylor is right about immigrants; There are some things we never fully understand about Australia. I’ve been here 14 years and I still don’t understand why gambling is not only legal, but legal in the same way asbestos once was: sold to you by men in suits as if it were the basis of modern life rather than poison.
When I first arrived, I was surprised by how ubiquitous it was. In other Western countries, this was something that happened in designated sin zones, special neon zones where sad men in shorts went to negotiate the odds and lose custody of their dignity.
