Aldi issues huge prediction for 1,080 stores on Saturday | UK | News

Aldi has released a big prediction for its beer sales ahead of England’s 2026 FIFA World Cup quarter-final clash with Norway. German supermarket Aldi, which has 1,080 stores across the UK, is predicting its biggest beer sales day of the year will be tomorrow (Saturday, July 12) as fans gather late into the night to watch the kick-off.
During the week, “shoppers are estimated to purchase more than 8.2 million beers, 2.1 million pizzas and 5.7 million bags of chips,” according to the chain. “Almost 2 million beers, 1 million bags of chips and 430,000 pizzas are expected to fly off the shelves on Saturday alone.”
England’s heroics at the World Cup have coincided with sweltering temperatures in the UK, and with the heatwave continuing, Aldi is predicting a “huge increase in ice cream sales with 4.5 million ice creams expected to fly off the shelves this week”.
Aldi UK Commercial Director Julie Ashfield said: “Nothing brings people together like an England match and we expect shoppers to stock up on all the essentials ahead of kick-off.
“From beer and pizzas to crisps, we’ve got everything football fans need for a winning party, all at Aldi’s unrivaled value.”
England qualified for the last eight with a dramatic win over Mexico in Mexico City on Monday morning.
England survived a major scare when right-back Jarell Quansah was sent off in the 54th minute.
But Thomas Tuchel’s men managed to progress with a 3-2 win thanks to a brace from Jude Bellingham, a penalty from Harry Kane and tireless defending to resist Mexico’s late siege.
Norway and their free-scoring talisman Erling Haaland now stand between England and the semi-finals.
The match will be played at Miami Stadium in Florida and kick-off will be at 22:00 UK time. It will be broadcast live on ITV.
