ALISON BOSHOFF: Unseen photos of Freddie Mercury with his ‘love child’ will resolve Queen mystery

Love, Freddie, the bombshell Freddie Mercury biopic that revealed the Queen superstar had a secret love child, shocked fans last year.

Freddie’s daughter, known only as ‘B’, died in January following a battle with chordoma, a rare spinal cancer.

His widow, Thomas, who lives in Switzerland, now plans to publish a treasure trove of photographs of B with Mercury; plus documents and pages from the star’s diaries. ‘Paternity will be clearly established,’ he told me.

He says the book, which Thomas has been working on since January, will eliminate any possible doubts about the veracity of the story. He told me: ‘The photo album will be released in the autumn of 2027. Each photograph selected for inclusion was analyzed, verified and approved by three court-appointed experts.

The same goes for ‘documents written by her father, cards and notes to his daughter, bank statements and, of course, notebooks’.

“Everything has been done to ensure that there is no dispute as to authenticity,” he said, adding that he “began the long and eventful task of adding a caption to each photo.” He says it will ‘be a testament to the relationship between a father and his daughter.’

Written by famed rock writer Lesley-Ann Jones, Love, Freddie was based on B’s memoirs, as well as 17 handwritten diaries kept by Mercury. Jones did not directly quote or reproduce the diaries; this could lead to legal action from the Mercury estate (or the so-called ‘Queen machine’).

But B’s widow told me: ‘Some copies of the notebooks will actually be published [in the album]. To prevent any attempt at intimidation, the broadcaster’s choice will only be announced at the last moment.’

People close to Mercury rejected this story; this includes his one-time fiancée, Mary Austin (pictured with Mercury in 1977), to whom he bequeathed the bulk of his estate.

All proceeds will go to pediatric oncology units, as his wife wishes.

Thomas confirmed B’s death to the Mail in January. The Queen star, privately known as Bibi, referred to her as ‘trésor’ (French for treasure) and also ‘little frog’.

Jones’ book explains that Mercury became the father through an affair with a married friend in 1976. Bibi grew up aware that Mercury was her biological father, and they maintained a close relationship until his death in 1991.

But people close to Mercury ignored this story; including his one-time fiancée, Mary Austin, who inherited most of his estate, and actress Anita Dobson, who is married to Queen guitarist Brian May. Both said they were unaware of the existence of such a child.

Jones countered that many people in Mercury’s circle, including his family, knew about B. He added: ‘To those who insist that Freddie Mercury’s diaries were faked by AI, that his daughter ‘doesn’t exist’ and that I made it all up: wait and see.’

Actor Alfred Molina (pictured) is currently starring in the entertaining Netflix drama series The Boroughs, a sort of Stranger Things genre set in a retirement community.

Molina and American actress Jane Kaczmarek have played husband and wife six times, most recently in The Boroughs.

The British actor, who rose to fame with the 1987 film Prick Up Your Ears opposite Gary Oldman, is currently starring in the entertaining Netflix drama series The Boroughs, a bit of a Stranger Things genre, set in a retirement community.

In the series, Molina plays engineer Sam Cooper, who is married to Lilly, played by Jane Kaczmarek.

Lilly dies in the show’s opening scenes, leaving Sam alone in the perfect—too perfect—town for old people.

It was revealed that the couple had played husband and wife five times before.

Noting the coincidence, Molina said: ‘Twice on stage, twice on the radio and now in The Boroughs. And I still can’t stand him.’

Murder Most Puzzling, the delightful crime thriller starring Downton Abbey’s Phyllis Logan as puzzle-maker-turned-detective Cora Felton, has breathed its last.

Phyllis says: ‘I’d love for him to return but I haven’t heard anything about a reboot almost a year after the first series premiered so I suspect he won’t return.

‘If it’s gone, maybe it’s because there are so many good crime dramas on TV and people are tired of them?’

Current ‘casual crimes’ on TV include Death Valley, Ludwig, Grantchester and Midsomer Murders, as well as the film version of Richard Osman’s Thursday Murder Club on Netflix.

A spokesman for Channel 5 confirms: ‘We no longer have any plans to do so anytime soon.’

He’s not heavy – he’s my friend

Martin Clunes says one of his favorite co-stars is his dog in Doc Martin.

Clunes said Buddy, whose real name is Dodger, gave him “honestly one of the happiest working relationships I’ve ever had with anyone.”

The rough-furred Jack Russell terrier’s movements were taught by professional dog trainer Sonia Turner.

“He was really great,” Clunes said. ‘We just wanted him to be a dog, not a trick. But he could do so much more.

‘The best trick we’ve used a few times is that [Turner] he would say: ‘Go for a walk!’ and he was lifting his leg.

‘He wouldn’t pee but we were going to add the sound later.’ The series, about a grumpy GP in Cornwall, has been delighting audiences until 2022.

Dodger was replaced in the final series because he was too old to perform, and he died the following year.

Meanwhile, Turner also trains Paddy, the dog who appears as Sykes in Midsomer Murders.
