A new call has been made to finance the government’s free TV licenses for retirees – the campaignists say that there is a ‘desperate need’ to finance the rising invoices. A TV license rose to £ 174,50 for both homes and businesses (£ 58,50 for black and white TV sets) and rose in April.
Netflix, Amazon Prime, ITVX, Disney Plus, Youtube, 4 or MY5 does not require a license for capture shows. However, a license is still required to monitor live content through these platforms. Failure to keep a TV license while displaying live TV may cause a fine of £ 1,000 or £ 2,000 in Guernsey.

If the petition reaches 10,000 signatures, will receive an official response from the Ministry of Culture, Media and Sports, and if it reaches 100,000, it will lead to a parliamentary debate that the government should reveal its position and respond directly to proposals.
Some retirees can apply for a free TV license, but only under certain conditions. The state retirees born in certain years may be entitled to obtain a free TV license by following a rule of conformity in connection with age and benefits. Anyone aged 75 years and older who receives a pension loan in the UK is entitled to a TV license free of charge.
