A new call has been made to finance the government’s free TV licenses for retirees – the campaignists say that there is a ‘desperate need’ to finance the rising invoices. A TV license rose to £ 174,50 for both homes and businesses (£ 58,50 for black and white TV sets) and rose in April.

Some retirees can apply for a free TV license, but only under certain conditions. The state retirees born in certain years may be entitled to obtain a free TV license by following a rule of conformity in connection with age and benefits. Anyone aged 75 years and older who receives a pension loan in the UK is entitled to a TV license free of charge.
