Mamdani attended the Bronx High School of Science, one of New York’s most prestigious public schools, and later graduated from Bowdoin College in Maine with a degree in Africana Studies in 2014. Personal Life – Meeting His Wife
Zohran Mamdani is married to Syrian American artist Rama Duwaji, who lives in Brooklyn. The two first met on the dating app Hinge in 2021 and quickly connected over their shared interests in community work and married in early 2025.
Working at the Grassroots Level
Before entering politics, Mamdani worked as a foreclosure prevention consultant in Queens, helping low-income and immigrant families save their homes. This job gave him firsthand experience of the struggles facing working-class New Yorkers and inspired him to begin political activism.
In 2020, he ran for the New York State Assembly from Queens’ 36th District and won. His campaign focused on affordable housing, tenants’ rights and better public transportation. With his progressive views and grassroots approach, he quickly became a recognized voice in state politics.
