AP Records Decline in Crime Cases in 2024

vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh recorded a decline in the number of crimes registered under IPC, Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Special and Local Laws in 2024; 1.68 lakh cases were recorded compared to 1.84 lakh in 2023 and 1.95 lakh in 2022.

Official National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) data showed that crimes against women and children accounted for 17,480 cases during the year.

Police recorded 441 cases of rape and 102 cases of attempted rape. The number of cases recorded due to fraudulent sexual intercourse remained at 48.

A total of 2,389 cases of assault or use of criminal force against women with intent to violate their chastity and chastity were recorded, while 843 cases of sexual harassment were reported.

Of the sexual harassment cases, 12 were reported in office buildings, 26 in workplaces such as stores, shopping malls, factories and homes, seven in public transportation systems and 60 in public places or on roads. While the number of cases reported in shelters for women and children was 65, 673 cases were reported in other places.

Police also recorded 189 cases of assault or criminal force with intent to undress women, 134 cases of voyeurism, 977 cases of stalking and 2,956 cases of insulting women’s modesty.

The state recorded 72 cases of dowry deaths and 9,165 cases of cruelty by husbands or relatives. The number of cases of abducting women or encouraging them to marry stood at 110, while six cases of miscarriage crimes were recorded.

As many as 898 murder cases were recorded in the state during the year.

The number of cases of causing death due to negligence is 8,813, of which 7,683 resulted in death in traffic accidents. 701 of the hit-and-run cases and 6,982 cases were related to other accidents. The number of deaths resulting from railway accidents was 27, and the number of cases of medical negligence was 29.

Police recorded 412 cases of abetment to suicide and 1,523 cases of attempted murder. While the number of culpable attempted murder cases reached 12, the number of organized crime cases was also reported as 12.

Cases of voluntarily causing hurt stood at 2.25 lakh, while 9,438 cases involved voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or methods.

A total of 457 cases were registered for using force to voluntarily injure public officials or deter them from performing their duties. 931 cases were related to acts endangering life or security.

The state recorded two cases of acid attack and three cases of attempted acid attack.

Police recorded 1,816 cases of unjust restraint or confinement and 468 cases of kidnapping. Approximately 29 cases of missing children and 31 victims were considered abduction cases. Kidnapping for ransom cases remained at 11.

As many as 11 cases were registered under crimes affecting the sovereignty, unity and integrity of India, while the other 11 cases were related to crimes against the state.

The number of riot-related cases reached 447; these include three cases of communal violence. The number of cases related to land and property disputes was 43, and 11 cases related to water disputes.

Police recorded 1,829 cases of crimes disturbing public peace and 12,022 cases of theft.

While the number of house theft cases was 597 with the participation of 605 victims, the number of vehicle theft cases was 5,078 with the participation of 5,208 victims. There were 6 cases of idol theft from places of worship and 21 cases of vehicle theft.

The state recorded 4,061 cases of theft, including 830 during the day and 3,299 at night.

The number of cases related to forgery, cheating and fraud reached 6,202. The number of ATM-related fraud cases was 89, and the number of credit and debit card fraud cases was 132.

Police also recorded 13,958 cases of rash driving on public roads, 23 religion-related offenses and 50 cases of cheating by impersonation.
