Wild Elephant Tramples Farmer To Death

Late B. Thimma Reddy of Devineni Indlu village under E-Palaguttapalli gram panchayat had gone to her field alone after 10 pm on Thursday to harvest the crop manually. It was reported that he came face to face with a wild elephant around 01:00 on Friday and could not escape in the dark.

His family, living in Tirupati, remained unaware of the incident until Friday evening, when repeated phone calls to him went unanswered. Neighbors searched the field and found his body around 19.30.

Officials led by Tirupati district forest officer and forest area officer Panapakam, along with Pakala police, visited the spot and conducted an investigation. The body was taken to Tirupati Government Hospital for autopsy.

Thimma Reddy is survived by his wife Manemma and two sons. Forest department has issued GO Ms. No. dated July 22, 2024. He will give an additional gift of ₹ 10 lakh to his wife under 29.

Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan expressed grief over the death of the farmer. After reviewing the incident with forest officials, he stated that the incident was an unfortunate incident even though elephant movement was constantly monitored and regular alerts were issued to nearby villages.

He expressed his condolences to the bereaved family and instructed the forest officials and the district administration to provide all possible assistance and ensure that the old gratuities are paid as soon as possible.

The forest department said the elephant task force constantly monitors elephant movements and warns residents. In areas where elephant movement has been reported, people have been urged not to enter agricultural areas alone at night.
