Museum of Letters in Kottayam set for ₹15-crore expansion

The letter and literary museum in Kottayam, which was established under the cooperation section, is preparing for a great expansion of the history of Indian languages.

The state government gave administrative sanctions for the second, third and fourth stages of the facility in the facilities of the Sahithya Pravarthaka Cooperative Association in Nattakom.

According to the Minister of Cooperation Vn Vasavan, the state cabinet approved the completion of the remaining stages with a cost of 14.98 crore and will be financed through the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIİFB).

The stages of more than 25,000 square meters will exhibit galleries about the evolution of Indian and world languages ​​and scenarios, the history of Malayalam poetry and literature, prose literature and scientific writing.

In addition to the exhibition areas, the museum event corners, a digitalization laboratory, a sound-video studio, a children’s park, comprehensive handwriting and antique collections, a protection unit, rare first prints and a library complex.

Plans are continuing to provide short -term working and training programs in areas such as epigraphy, Museology, Archives, Protection and Printing Technology. The Minister added that the interactive classes will enrich the learning experience as well as special sections related to the legacy of world languages ​​and Malayalam literature.

The first stage of the museum, which was opened in November last year, takes visitors to the modern evolution of Malayalam through oral traditions, cave pictures and hieroglyphs, from the origins of human communication. The galleries follow the milestones of the Pravarthaka Cooperative Association in shaping the development of Indian scenarios, the history of Malayalam edition and the literary heritage of Kerala.

Letter Tourism Circuit

The project also links Kottayam’s most iconic cultural, historical and literary ground signs. These include CMS Press, which is the birthplace of Malayalam pressure; Kottayam Valiyapally, known for its sacred cross with the Pahlavi inscriptions and the temple of Kumaranellur giant, hosts the palm leaf manuscripts and ancient sacred texts.
