Central University of Karnataka (CUK) Ambedkar Students Association (ASA) has written a letter to all Members of Parliament in Karnataka, asking them to intervene in allegations of large-scale violations of reservation norms and post-tenure manipulation in cadre and non-teaching recruitment in the university.

In an affidavit dated December 13, the student body alleged that the current administration under Vice-Chancellor Battu Satyanarayana has changed the 200-point post-based reservation list in violation of government norms, thereby reducing opportunities for candidates from Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes.

The association said CUK, the only centralized university in the state and located in the educationally backward Kalaburagi district, was established to serve as an academic center for marginalized areas. However, he alleged that the goal was undermined by “partisan administrative decisions” and deliberate staff manipulation to install preferred candidates, seriously compromising social justice and institutional integrity.

According to the statement, more than 80 teaching positions at the professor, associate professor and assistant professor levels have already been filled using the so-called “manipulated position” method. The association also claimed that more than 50 more posts were reported based on the same changing list.

The student body alleged that the alleged violations amounted to denial of constitutionally guaranteed reservation rights under Articles 14, 16(4), 16(4A) and 335 of the Constitution, particularly affecting the SC, ST and OBC communities.

Seeking immediate corrective action, the ASA has called on MPs to raise the issue in Parliament and press for a judicial or Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into the alleged irregularities. It also requested that all ongoing and proposed recruitment processes at the university be suspended until a thorough investigation into tenure violations is completed.

A detailed note along with 13 annexures containing documentary evidence were attached to the declaration for review and further action.
