I love a good celebration, and Americans know they should do anything to celebrate. Whether it’s Halloween, Christmas, or even a major sporting event, we decorate, make costumes, prepare themed and branded foods, and celebrate a specific holiday or milestone. And as Americans, we work hard.

So, as we head towards 2026, the landmark 250th anniversary of our declaration of independence from Britain and the founding of our great country, I was looking forward to the all-out barrage of red, white and blue patriotism coming from every direction.

Now, just a week away from the 4th of July, I find myself still searching.

It seems capitalism failed America’s 250th anniversary.

In a country with smart people trying to seize every possible opportunity, our 250th anniversary seems like a waste. Sure, you might find some merch here and there or your regular 4th of July fare, but the economic response to this massive milestone event has been all milquetoast at best.

I was expecting to see t-shirts, sweatshirts, sweaters, and more in red, white, and blue; It had large letters saying “America 250” and “America: Founded 1776”. I was expecting to see stars, stripes, and accessories proudly bearing “250.” I expected every grocery item, from condiments to candy, to include not only limited-edition red, white and blue varieties, but also branding celebrating America’s 250th anniversary.

Where are the crazy themed decorations, 250th balloons and souvenir ornaments? Where are the blown-up Uncle Sams on suburban lawns? Where are the special festivals and events? Big apple pie baking contests?

Why don’t you walk down the street, covered head to toe in red, white and blue, not just for the Fourth of July but all year long, with an oversized sign bearing “America’s 250th.” Don’t they have banners?

It seems we’ve seen more American patriotism in foreigners visiting America for the FIFA World Cup than we’ve seen from American industry.

Corporate America is often the first to jump on any theme, event or milestone. It is incredibly disappointing that they have largely ignored America’s 250th anniversary. For those who don’t want to get too “political”, that has never stopped them in the past, and the founding of our country is not about a political party.

In fact, America’s 250th anniversary is about all of us as individuals. America was founded on the unique idea of promoting and protecting the rights of each of us as individuals. It is a celebration of independence and a celebration of the people over the government. It is a celebration of defying odds and being willing to put ideas into action through intelligence, courage and strategy.

No matter what you think of anyone or everyone in government at any given time, this country belongs to us as Americans.

That’s something worth celebrating loudly, proudly, and with an obscene amount of themed merchandise.

Half the year has passed and it’s a little late in the game, but it’s never too late for capitalism. I hope the 4th of July is the beginning of a wave of patriotism that comes your way. We have the most amazing country in the world and it deserves a proper celebration.
