Amit Shah reviews border security grid in Bengal, unveils Rs 77-crore BSF projects

He also oversaw a radio-based fence breach detection system that instantly alerts personnel by broadcasting a pre-recorded message whenever the border fence is tampered with, people with knowledge said.
He laid the foundation stone and inaugurated development projects of BSF worth Rs 77.06 billion.
Shah today inspected indigenous and latest technologies designed to further strengthen border security at Jhumagachh Border Post in Siliguri in North Bengal.
“The Siliguri Corridor, which was an infiltration corridor during the previous governments, is now becoming synonymous with a secure border. Today, I inspected the surveillance system of the BSF’s 18th Battalion of the North Bengal Frontier’s Deportation Post at Jumagachh BOP from the watchtower. The Modi government has not only increased the number of watchtowers along the borders but has also further strengthened border security by equipping them with latest technology and is impregnable,” Shah said on Handle X.
The Union Home Minister said, “The Government of India, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is determined to make the country’s borders impenetrable. The Modi government is establishing a quadrilateral security network to strengthen the borders.”
“He emphasized that the welfare of the security personnel guarding the country’s borders and their families is the top priority for the Modi government. The government is working to fully secure the borders and prevent infiltration of border areas through the ‘Smart Borders’ concept.”Shah reviewed the infrared alarm system installed to ensure security of difficult terrains such as areas with rivers and streams or gaps in border fences. The system gives advance warning to troops when infrared rays are interrupted.
Shah also reviewed the gate management system designed to facilitate safe and hassle-free movement of civilians and farmers along the India-Bangladesh border.
It also laid the foundation stone of three BSF projects worth Rs 47 crore and laid the foundation stone for the construction of a 4-km-long border fence worth Rs 30 crore on newly acquired land for two border posts in West Bengal through virtual mode.
During the ‘Prahari Sammelan’, Shah interacted with BSF personnel. He also visited a watchtower and participated in a tree planting drive. West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhiakri and Director General of Border Security Force were also present at this event among the dignitaries. Shah also visited the watchtower and joined BSF personnel for afternoon tea, people in the know said.
During his three-day visit to Bengal from July 17 to 19, Shah will inaugurate the first phase of the ‘Museum of Words’ at the National Library in Alipore on Sunday. This is Shah’s first comprehensive visit to Bengal after the BJP came to power in May’s assembly elections.
