Andhra Pradesh draws ₹90,000 crore green energy push from ReNew, Hero Future Energies

Andhra Pradesh attracted new investments worth almost 90,000 crore from ReNew Energy Global Plc and Hero Future Energies, two of India’s leading renewable energy companies, accelerating the state’s drive to become a national hub for green energy projects.

Both companies have signed agreements with the state government committing to investments.

Nasdaq-listed ReNew said on Thursday that it has signed four memorandums of understanding (MoUs) with the Andhra Pradesh Economic Development Board. The MoUs relate to the establishment of 5GW of hybrid projects, including a 6 gigawatt (GW) solar ingot-wafer plant, a 2GW pumped hydro project, a 300 kilotonne per annum (KTPA) green ammonia plant, and wind-solar and solar cell energy storage initiatives.

In May this year, the company announced that it would invest. 22,000 crore Andhra Pradesh will set up a hybrid renewable energy project in the state. ReNew’s 60,000 crore announcement is much higher than before 22,000 crore.

Commenting on ReNew’s proposed investment, N. Chandrababu Nadu, chief minister of Andhra Pradesh, said: “Andhra Pradesh is committed to emerging as a national leader in renewable energy, and partners like ReNew play a pivotal role in advancing this vision. ReNew’s ongoing investments strengthen the confidence of global industry leaders in the state’s policies, infrastructure and capability.”

Sumant Sinha, founder, chairman and chief executive officer (CEO) of ReNew, said the projects will strengthen local supply chains, create high-quality skilled jobs and advance India’s vision of ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’.

further, Hero Future Energies (HFE), the renewable energy arm of Hero Group, has signed an MoU with the Andhra Pradesh government to develop renewable energy generation projects with a total capacity of 4GW in Ananthapuramu, Kurnool and Kadapa districts.

Under the agreement, HFE will build renewable energy production projects in two phases, creating a total of more than 15,000 direct and indirect jobs, according to a company statement released Thursday.

Rahul Munjal, founder and CMD of Hero Future Energies, said the state’s “proactive policy environment” and strong infrastructure make it a priority investment destination. In the statement made by HFE, it was stated that the MoU will remain valid for 12 months from the date of signature.

HFE has a global portfolio of 7.2 GWp (Gigawatt-peak) of renewable energy assets plus 2.3 GWh of BESS (battery energy storage system) capacity, including both operational and under development projects in India, Ukraine, Vietnam and the United Kingdom.

ReNew, which recently accepted a proposal from its backers to be delisted from Nasdaq, has a gross clean energy portfolio of 18.5 GW, with 1.1 GWh of BESS as of November 10, 2025. It also has production of 6.4 GW of solar modules and 2.5 GW of solar cells. It also increases solar cell capacity by 4GW.

Andhra Pradesh is emerging as a major investment destination for renewable energy projects in the country. State Andhra Pradesh came into being with Integrated Last year, with the aim of activating the Clean Energy Policy 10 trillion green energy investment by 2029.
