The White House has released an update on Donald Trump’s health. On Wednesday, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said the US President will visit a hospital for a medical check-up.
Ms. Leavitt said that on Friday, Oct. 10, Mr. Trump would “stop by” and have his “routine annual checkup” during his visit to Walter Reed Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.
This comes after months of speculation about the health of the President, who, at 79, is the second-oldest holder of America’s highest office after his predecessor, Joe Biden.
Concerns increased over the summer when Trump emerged with a dark mark on the back of his hand; He attributed this to too much handshaking. While this was quickly covered up with make-up, the color change was noticed again in recent days.
Trying to clarify the issue, the President’s surgeon general, Sean Barbabella, had previously issued a letter stating that the bruising was “consistent with mild soft tissue irritation from frequent handshakes and the use of aspirin taken as part of a standard cardiovascular prevention regimen.”
But because observers have noticed that one side of Donald Trump’s face tends to droop during extended conversations, whenever the POTUS disappears from public view for more than a few days, the rumor mill in Washington churns out speculation that Trump is undergoing serious health treatments.
This started again this week when President Trump decided to send a text message to the CNN show instead of appearing on the phone as usual. The only health issue Trump has been publicly aware of since he began his second term was his treatment in July for chronic venous insufficiency, a condition in which blood struggles to flow from the body’s extremities back to the heart.
However, Press Secretary Leavitt had previously been unable to respond when asked about the treatment the President was receiving for this condition or any other health condition.
Leavitt said: “I don’t want to make that commitment on behalf of the doctor, but it’s certainly something we can look into and explore in an effort at transparency because unlike the previous White House, there’s nothing to hide.”
Leavitt said today: “On Friday morning, President Trump will visit Walter Reed Medical Center for a scheduled meeting and remarks with troops. While there, President Trump will stop by for his routine annual checkup. He will then return to the White House. President Trump intends to travel to the Middle East shortly.”
