Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor won’t face probe into reports he asked bodyguard to investigate Virginia Giuffre

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor will not face a criminal investigation over claims he asked his taxpayer-funded bodyguard to investigate his accuser Virginia Giuffre, police have said.

Reports claimed the disgraced royal passed on the date of birth and social security number of Ms Giuffre to the Metropolitan Police bodyguard and asked them to dig up dirt on her in 2011.

The Met’s Central Crime Specialist Commander Ella Marriott announced today that the royal family will face no further action following the review.

In a statement, he confirmed that the Met first received allegations of trafficking for sexual exploitation involving Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell in 2015.

The official said officers interviewed Ms Giuffre and contacted several other potential victims and “this did not result in any allegations of criminal conduct against any UK-based citizen”.

“A decision was made in November 2016 not to proceed with a full criminal investigation,” he added.

“This decision was reviewed in August 2019 and again in 2021 and 2022; in each case the situation remained unchanged and Ms. Giuffre and her legal representative were informed.”

He said further investigation following the latest allegations regarding the bodyguard did not reveal any evidence of criminal activity and that they would not take any further action.

Commander Marriott added: “Following recent reports suggesting that Mr Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor asked a Met Police close protection officer to carry out checks on Ms Giuffre in 2011, the MPS carried out a further assessment. This assessment did not reveal any additional evidence of criminal acts or misconduct.

“The Met is committed to thoroughly assessing any new information that may assist this matter. To date we have not received any additional evidence to support reopening the investigation.”

“We will take no further action unless further information is available. As with any other matter, if new and relevant information is brought to our attention, including information arising from material disclosed in the United States, we will consider it.”
