AP Government Announces Relief For Weavers Affected By Cyclone Montha

: The state government has announced financial assistance and basic assistance for weavers affected by Cyclone Montha, handloom and textile minister S. Savitha said on Sunday.
He stated that 5 thousand TL aid was provided to each weaver whose yarn, dye or chemicals were damaged due to heavy rain and floods. So far, a total of 718 weavers have been sanctioned ₹35.90 lakh as compensation for their losses.
“Also, 27,982 handloom families across the state were identified as cyclone victims through a detailed survey conducted by the authorities. Families who lost their livelihood due to the cyclone will be provided with 50 kg of rice, 1 liter of palm oil and 1 kg of red gram, onion, potato and sugar as part of the emergency relief package. Similar to the aid given to fishermen, each of the affected weaving families will be given 50 kg of rice along with basic commodities,” the minister explained.
Savitha said Bapatla district recorded the most affected weaver families (8,567), followed by Dr BR Ambedkar Konaseema (4,278), Krishna (3,900), Srikakulam (3,333), Nellore (2,400) and Tirupati (1,700).
He added that authorities continue to identify affected families and distribute relief materials in other areas to ensure that no weavers are left out of the relief plan.
