Andy Burnham could make 1 major change to UK pubs | Politics | News

Andy Burnham has big plans for pubs if he becomes Prime Minister. Makerfield’s new MP, who was sworn in on Monday, confirmed plans to cut employers’ National Insurance contributions and cut pubs’ business rates.
Burnham’s new policy plans will affect every pub in England. He suggested pubs’ business rates should be reduced, given the risk of thousands of businesses being forced to close due to the Labor Government’s rates.
“I said I didn’t think it was the right decision to weigh the burden on employers’ insurance, but that was the decision.
He added: “There is still more to be done to listen to the voice of small business and I hear that voice a lot as I walk around this constituency.
“People feel like they’re at the limit of what they can do.”
His idea was to ensure bars, clubs and music venues would benefit from a 20% discount next year. BirminghamLive.
Meanwhile, smaller, independent hospitality, leisure and retail firms will see the threshold for paying business rates removed for the first time since 2017, leaving many outside the scope of the tax altogether.
Burnham said: “I am prepared to be honest about where we have fallen short and say this is what my party has got it wrong in government.
He added: “They underestimated the contribution these businesses make to our livelihoods and communities.
“Our high streets are important to me because they are important to the people who live here. I want to make sure these family businesses, which are the heart and soul of this country, are protected and given the chance to thrive.”
Burnham had tried to become Labor leader before; He competed twice and lost both times. However, with the resignation of Sir Keir Starmer today, Labor Party MPs began to rally around the new MP.
