Anthony Albanese to deliver letter to Tim Picton’s daughter after alleged one-punch attack

Anthony Albanese will deliver a personal letter to the daughter of one of Labor’s leading strategists who was killed following an alleged one-punch attack.
Tim Picton, 36, was unconscious when he was attacked outside a nightclub in Perth’s Northbridge on December 27.
Tragically, he died surrounded by his family on Monday.
Brodie Jake Dewar, 20, was charged with causing grievous bodily harm in connection with the incident in which Mr Picton was alleged to have collapsed.
Mr Picton played a key role in WA Labor’s 2021 state election campaign, which resulted in a landslide victory, and later in Mr Albanese’s 2022 “WA-centric” federal election campaign.
He will be bid farewell at a funeral ceremony to be held at Perth Optus Stadium on Friday at 10.30 local time.
The Prime Minister, who is in Perth for duty, described Picton as “brilliant” and the alleged circumstances surrounding his death as “senseless”.
Mr Albanese said he would deliver a letter to Mr Picton’s daughter Charlotte.
“Today I have a letter for Charlotte that I will give to Tim’s wife Priya, so that when she grows up she will know some of my personal thoughts about her father; for Tim, Charlotte was the apple of his eye.”

Prime Minister Roger Cook said on Tuesday that Charlotte “will now wonder what happened to her father”.
“Priya lost her best friend and of course Fiona and Michael lost their son,” he said.
“So I want to offer my absolute condolences and deepest condolences on behalf of everyone.”
More to come.
