Anthropic names former Fed Chair Bernanke to its independent trust

Anthropic on Thursday announced He said he appointed Ben Bernanke, the former chairman of the Federal Reserve, to the Long-Term Benefit Trust, the company’s independent management structure that advises the company and appoints board members.
Bernanke served as chairman of the Federal Reserve from 2006 to 2014, succeeding the late Alan Greenspan. Shortly after taking office, he found himself in the middle of the worst economic collapse since the Great Depression, which was hit by the financial crisis of 2008. Part of his legacy was moving the Fed into the realm of zero interest rates and quantitative easing.
After leaving the Fed, he held various positions in organizations such as the Brookings Institution, Citadel and Pimco. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Economics in 2022 for his research on the causes of the Great Depression.
As a member of Anthropic’s Long-Term Benefit Foundation, Bernanke will help the company understand how AI is changing the economy. a blog post.
“Anthropic has created a unique governance structure to ensure that the long-term benefits of artificial intelligence for humanity far outweigh the risks,” Bernanke said in a statement. he said. “I am honored to have this opportunity and will strive to contribute to this critical mission in any way I can.”
Anthropic was founded in 2021 by a group of researchers and executives who left OpenAI. The company is valued at $965 billion and is gearing up for a potentially massive IPO that could happen as soon as this year.
Bernanke is the fourth member of Anthropic’s Long-Term Benefit Foundation, joining Clinton Health Access Initiative CEO Neil Buddy Shah, national security expert Richard Fontaine, and international relations expert Mariano-Florentino Cuéllar. The person the company appointed in January.
Anthropic said the foundation’s members do not own any shares in Anthropic and are only paid for their time and services. The existing board of trustees elects new members in consultation with the company.
