Anupam Kher says Naseeruddin Shah apologised for their 2020 feud: ‘He said, sorry, friend’

However, in a recent chat with Unfiltered by Samdish, Kher revealed that Shah apologized for the incident.
Anupam Kher and Naseeruddin Shah finally reconcile years after their highly publicized fight. The heated debate in 2020, which started after Kher expressed his pro-government views following Deepika Padukone’s visit to JNU, escalated into heated remarks in which Shah called Kher a “joker” and questioned his “blood” and upbringing. Kher hit back on social media, accusing Shah of being “disappointed” despite his success.
However, in a recent chat with Unfiltered by Samdish, Kher revealed that Shah apologized for the incident.
Speaking about the incident in an interview recorded around Independence Day, Kher said, “I still feel like I have great respect for Naseeruddin. But sometimes he says unflattering things about me.”
The actor later recalled their unexpected meeting at an event held in memory of filmmaker HD Pathak. “We met recently and he apologized to me: ‘I’m sorry, man!’ he said. We met when HD Pathak passed away.”
Kher described that moment warmly and said that they hugged and greeted each other. “I love him very much and he is one of the actors who inspired me to start acting,” he added.
But Kher admitted that he was still surprised by Shah’s occasional comments, saying, “Sometimes he says things like that.”
Kher expressed concern about Shah, acknowledging his talent but also pointing to deep emotional undercurrents. “He is a talented and intelligent man and God has blessed him with so many things. There is no bigger star than him in parallel cinema. Yet sometimes I feel there is some resentment aimed at me, sometimes at Dilip Kumar, sometimes at Rajesh Khanna.”
About the 2020 fight
The conflict between the two actors started when Shah, in an interview with The Wire, praised Deepika Padukone for standing with JNU students and dismissed Kher’s political comments. Shah had said: “Someone like Anupam Kher is very talkative… He is a clown… It’s in his blood, he can’t do anything.”
