Man charged with murder after remains believed to be missing woman found in Queensland bushland | Queensland

Police have charged a man with murder after remains believed to be those of a woman who had been missing for several days were found in bushland.

As of Sunday morning, the remains have not yet been officially identified, but Queensland police investigators believe they are Jana Armstrong’s.

Armstrong was reported missing from the southern Brisbane suburb of Toowoomba after he was last seen on Tuesday.

Officers released footage of Armstrong wearing a green-and-white striped Country Road shirt, jeans and a thong, while his white Hyundai car was seen driving about 500 meters from his home.

It was declared a crime scene at 11.20pm on Saturday after the remains were found in woodland off Esk Hampton road.

Investigators were in contact with Armstrong’s family as forensic examinations continued.

Detectives later arrested a 48-year-old man at his home in Toowoomba and he was charged with one count of murder (a domestic violence offence).

He was due to appear in court on Monday.

Police have appealed to the public for any relevant information, CCTV or dashcam footage to assist their investigation. They identified locations between Toowoomba and Esk between 10.30pm on July 7 and 1.30am on July 8, after Armstrong was reported missing.

The police were due to speak to the press later on Sunday.
