APTransco to Complete 55 Transmission Projects Worth over Rs 9,000 Cr

Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh Ltd., an official said on Monday. He said Transmission Corporation has set an ambitious target to complete around 55 major transmission projects worth over Rs 9,000 billion.

Transmission Corporation of Andhra Pradesh Ltd (APTRANSCO) joint managing director G Surya Sai Praveenchand said 8,853 MVA of transmission capacity and 1,558 circuit km of transmission lines will be added to the state grid.

While commemorating the 77th Republic Day at Vidyut Soudha in Vijayawada, he said, “APTRANSCO has set an ambitious target to complete around 55 major transmission projects worth Rs 9,319.30 billion, which will add 8,853 MVA of conversion capacity and 1,558 circuit kilometers of transmission lines to the state grid.” he said.

According to the joint general manager, new 400/220/132 kv substations are being developed at strategic locations in Kakinada SEZ, Achutapuram, Gudivada and Ainavalli to provide reliable power.

He observed that Andhra Pradesh power utilities are giving top priority to expansion of transmission infrastructure, system modernization and adoption of advanced technologies to make the state’s power sector the best in the country.

Praveenchand said APTRANSCO currently operates 380 substations, 1,030 power transformers with a total capacity of 71,049 MVA and more than 33,000 circuit kilometers of high voltage transmission lines.

In recent years, APTRANSCO has commissioned and increased 3,240 MVA EHV substation capacity and laid approximately 950 circuit kilometers of new transmission lines, among other achievements; thus significantly improving system reliability and voltage profile across the state.

Additionally, Praveenchand stated that the southern state has a total installed power capacity of 21,153 MW, with renewable energy contributing 37 percent of the installed capacity and 22 percent of the total generation.
