Arrests made in London murder inquiry after fatal Battersea stabbing

Three teenagers have been arrested on suspicion of murder after a 17-year-old boy was killed in a suspicious stabbing in south-west London.

Jamal Coombes died in Battersea, south-west London, in the early hours of Saturday.

The Metropolitan Police said a boy and a girl, both 15, were arrested on Saturday and a 14-year-old boy was arrested on Sunday. They all remain in custody.

Officers were called to Glycena Road in Battersea at 4.20am and found Jamal seriously injured.

The London Ambulance Service and London Air Ambulance attended the scene, but despite the best efforts of paramedics, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police believe an argument took place before the attack and have appealed for anyone who “witnessed a group of men running” to come forward.

Detective Chief Inspector Brian Howie, the senior investigating officer who led the investigation from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command, said: “Our thoughts remain with Jamal’s loved ones following his tragic death.

He added: “I understand the impact this incident has had on the local community. If you have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to speak to one of our officers who have been patrolling the area this week. I am appealing directly to the public as our inquiries continue. We believe an argument took place prior to the attack.”

He said detectives were appealing for anyone who was in the Lavender Hill area of Glycena Road, Acanthus Road or Pountney Road between 3.30am and 5am and “witnessed a group of men running”.

He added: “Any information, no matter how small it may seem, can be crucial. CCTV, doorbell or mobile phone footage can provide vital evidence. I would also urge the public not to assume information has already been shared; any details could be of great importance to the investigation.”

Anyone with information or footage can contact police on 101 quoting CAD 1567/20JUN26.

They can also provide information anonymously via the police’s public portal or via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
