Arson squad investigating after suspicious fire in Alexander Heights destroys car, damages home

Police are investigating a suspicious fire that destroyed a car and caused nearly $20,000 worth of damage to a home in Alexander Heights on Friday.

At approximately 11:55 p.m., emergency services were called to the residence on Northumberland Avenue after a white Toyota Corolla parked in the driveway caught fire.

Police said the fire spread from the vehicle to the roof of the house.

Fire crews intervened in the fire and extinguished it before major damage was done to the house.

While the Toyota Corolla was destroyed in the fire, a second vehicle parked nearby also suffered minor damage.

Police estimate the fire caused approximately $20,000 worth of damage.

Arson squad detectives are asking for the public’s help in identifying a person seen in the area at the time of the fire.

Home security footage captured the man, wearing a hoodie and carrying a backpack, hiding in the property’s driveway before the fire started.

The person was last seen walking on Greenpark Road towards Alexander Drive.

Detectives are still investigating the cause of the fire.
