Ashley Flynn’s family says ‘our hearts are shattered’ after her alleged murder

The family of an Ohio teacher who was brutally shot to death in her home during what was initially reported as an overnight burglary is breaking its silence after her former “American Idol” contestant husband was charged with murder.
Ashley Flynn, a mother of two, teacher and volleyball coach, was shot and killed at her home in Tipp City, Ohio, early Monday morning. Her husband, Caleb Flynn, 39, has since been charged with murder.
Ashley Flynn’s family said in a statement obtained by Fox News on Saturday that “our hearts are shattered.”
“Ashley brought endless light to our world and we are trying to cope with this great loss,” the family said.

Caleb Flynn was charged with murder, two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and two counts of tampering with evidence. He appeared in court Friday morning and pleaded not guilty. His bond was set at $2 million.

“Our family believes this arrest was made carefully and not without serious consideration,” Ashley Flynn’s family said in a statement. he said. “After speaking with both local police and federal officials, we believe the necessary steps were taken and the process was conducted appropriately.”

Caleb Flynn told a 911 dispatcher that someone had broken into his home and shot his wife twice in the head, according to the audio recording obtained by Fox News Digital.

Caleb Flynn was a contestant on “American Idol” and talked about his love for his wife during an interview to appear on the show during a 2013 episode of Hometown Interview.
Ashley Flynn’s family asked for privacy as they work through “this complex case” and asked that anyone with information that could assist in the investigation contact the Tipp City Police Department.

“We hold on to our faith, just like Ashley does every day,” the statement said.
Following the murder, the Christian Life Center in Butler Township described Flynn as follows: beloved member of the church.
