The Election Commission of India has appointed IPS officer Sarvana Vivek M as police observer for the upcoming assembly elections in West Bengal, according to a notification.
According to the notification issued yesterday, Vivek, a 2015 batch IPS officer of Odisha cadre, will oversee police arrangements during the two-phase elections.
“The Election Commission, in exercise of the powers conferred upon it by Article 324 of the Constitution of India and Article 20B of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, has appointed you as Police Observer for the 2026 West Bengal Legislative Assembly General Elections,” he said.
The official added that the officer will serve as acting ECI during his tenure and will serve under its “control, supervision and discipline”.
