Aston Villa sign Joao Gomes in £38m deal from Wolves

Aston Villa Completed the £38m signing of midfielder Joao Gomes from Wolves.

The Brazil international joins for a starting fee of £34 million, with £4 million in add-ons.

Villa completed a club-record deal worth more than £50 million for Freiburg midfielder Johan Manzambi on Friday after defeating Newcastle to the Swiss international.

Atletico Madrid was also interested in Gomes, but the 25-year-old player left the Wolves training camp in Portugal on Thursday, passed a medical check and completed his transfer to Villa Park.

Villa midfielder Amadou Onana will be sidelined until next year after suffering a serious knee injury while playing for Belgium in the World Cup.

Gomes played 41 games for Wolves last season and finished last in the Premier League.

After transferring from Flamengo in 2023, he played 130 times for the club and scored seven goals.
