Prime Accused In Tanuja Ranjan’s Murder Flees To Nepal

The prime accused in the murder and loot of Tanuja Ranjan, wife of retired IPS officer Vinay Ranjan Ray, fled the country and entered Nepal.
Kalpana alias Dharma, a member of Sahu Gang, killed Tanuja at her home in Jubilee Hills, Prashasan Nagar, in the early hours of May 8 and removed her gold ornaments. He then booked a car to go to Nampally railway station, where his two friends had already purchased general tickets. To escape the police, they all took the Telangana Express, got off at Cherlapally, rented a car and went to the outskirts of the city.
On May 1, the victim’s husband Ranjan Ray, a retired AP cadre IPS officer, had gone to Bengaluru for treatment. That night, an uneasy Tanuja called Kalpana from the maid’s room to help her.
Kalpana, along with Suresh and Ganesh, strangled the victim in the early hours of May 8 and fled to Nampally railway station in a car with gold and cash. They were joined there by two colleagues named Dilip and another unidentified person. Police said the gang avoided using mobile phones in their escape plan.
Apart from CCTV footage collected at railway stations, the 12 police teams faced great difficulty in tracking the Sahu Gang, relying heavily on human intelligence. Police announced that gold buyers Sunil Periyal and Dilip were arrested, while Kalpana, Ganesh, Suresh and other gang members managed to cross into Nepal.
