Butler says government is taking expanded NDIS investigation ‘seriously’

Mark ButlerThe Federal Minister for Health was asked about the inquiry’s recommendations for improving the NDIS.

He told RN Breakfast this morning that the government was considering them very carefully and said there were “good proposals” that some officials were already working on. He continued:

double quotesWe are very keen to work on registration schemes for workers across the care economy, not just in the NDIS but also in the aged care sector. … Our priority right now is to register providers. There is little point in having employees registered if they are employed by service providers who are not registered and about whom we know nothing. …

We’re moving really quickly to make sure that several hundred thousand organizations and companies that are providing services are registered, that they tick the various boxes around quality, and that we have a good line of sight into who they are and what their character is.

Butler said he thought there would be more to learn during the full investigation into the NDIS changes negotiated with the Greens last week.

double quotesWe will take this expanded investigation very seriously and treat all these questions with the respect they deserve.
