The age profile of Tamil Nadu Cabinets over the last 15 years indicates a dramatic shift in composition: from the senior-dominated 2021 DMK Ministry to the noticeably younger 2026 TVK Cabinet.

Data on TVK Ministers as of May 21, 2026 shows that among the three governments studied, the youngest in average age is Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay’s Cabinet at 51 years old, while the oldest is MK Stalin’s 2021 Cabinet.

The cabinet specifically has nine ministers in their 30s, followed by seven senior ministers in their 50s, three in their 60s and only one minister in the 70-80 age bracket: former AIADMK leader KA Sengottaiyan.

Ministers in their 30s: A. Rajmohan of Egmore, R. Vinoth of Kumbakonam, VK Rajeev of Tiruvadanai, M. Vijay Balaji of Erode East, S. Ramesh of Srirangam, K. Thennarasu of Sriperumbudur, J. Mohamed Farvas of Aranthangi, D. Sarathkumar and K. Vignesh of Tambaram. Kinathudavu.

DMK Cabinet

In contrast, Mr Stalin’s 2021 DMK Cabinet, which represents Kolathur at the age of 68, was predominantly dominated by older leaders. 21 of the 34 Ministers were over 60 years old; 13 Ministers were in their 60s, seven were in their 70s and one was over 80. Only three were below 50, including Thiruverumbur’s Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi and Karur’s Senthil Balaji, who was in his 40s; M. Mathiventhan from Rasipuram was the only representative in the age group of 30-40 years.

The oldest veteran in all three Cabinets was DMK’s Duraimurugan from Katpadi, who was 83 at the time of inauguration. A significant portion of the 2021 Cabinet is in senior groups, with 12 ministers in their 60s and 10 ministers in their 50s.

middle way

The 2011 AIADMK Cabinet occupied a clear middle ground between the two extremes, operating under Jayalalithaa, who represented Srirangam at the age of 63.

Of the 34 ministers appointed to his cabinet, 15 were in their 50s, making it the largest age group. Among them were prominent names like 58-year-old KP Munusamy from Veppanahalli and 56-year-old Edappadi K. Palaniswami from Edappadi.

The rest of the Cabinet included 11 Ministers in their 40s, six in their 60s and two in their 30s, and none were over 70 years of age.

The youngest, meanwhile, were two members in their 30s: RB Udhayakumar, 37, from Sattur and V. Senthilbalaji, 36, from Karur.
